Default coolent temp problem

I tried to search but didnt find much. My 96 cherokee 4.0 is having a problem. It is starting hard, running ruff, and likes to stall. The code pulled on it was " engine coolent temp" circut. What does this mean and how can i fix it. I think it is electrical

Coolant temp circuit deals with the sensor in the water neck and the sending unit on the rear corner of the cylinder head, drivers side. about $30-35 to repalce then both.

Why those would cause a rough start/run condition is beyond me. Are you 110% sure about the error code?

the one in the rear of the head will not affect the running quality as it only controls your temp gauge/light... the one in the thermostat housing communicates with the computer so that would be the one to look into, it can also cause it to run badly as I have experienced before. Also may want to check the connection at the plug in

Was it a coolant temp circuit too high, too low, or just the code they throw if the t stat isn't working properly allowing it to heat up and reach closed loop? If the sensor has failed it could be telling the computer to add more fuel than needed.....

i dont see anything wrong with the plug at the housing. I dont really think thats it either. I took everything of of the side wall of the cherokee so i could paint under the hood, so i dont know if maybe i hooked something up wrong. Does anyone have a diagram of how everything should hook up? Ill try to get pics up today. And the code only says "engine coolant temp circuit. Not hight or low. Code is P0118

I'm also havin this problem. I have a 96 Cherokee and the check engin light came on so I hooked up a code reader and got the same code. The only different things are that my temp gauge doesn't work at all and the code said circuit high. If anyone can help me out that would be great. Im trying to get this fixed as soon as possible. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

i'd pick up new sensors and a new stock t-stat, only takes a few mins to install and are pretty cheap

Ok so get this! My power steering bottle was leaking so I took it off and changed it... When I started the truck the check engin light went off!!! Like how the hell is that possible?!? The power steering bottle doesn't have anything to do with my coolant and I haven't done the rad flush thermostat or the temp sensors yet! I am now royally confused
