Coolant Temp Sensor and Oil Pressure Sensor Flip Flopping
Hey Everyone.
I have a 1997 Stock 4.0L XJ 150,000 miles with an issue I haven't been able to diagnose in the limited time I've tried.
Earlier this week I got the ole' check gauges light when my oil pressure dropped to about 10 when cruising (normally a solid 40). Coolant temp read 210, which is normal. I pulled over, inspected things as best as I could and I wasn't leaking oil, had plenty of oil, and didn't notice any abnormal noises.
About 10 miles later, the oil pressure jumped back up to 35-40 psi, and at the same time my coolant temp dropped to 120. I physically watched this happen.
So I plugged in a scantool and on there it also read that the engine was running at 120 deg. I cleaned off the connector and made sure it was tight and still at 120.
Since then they've both been bouncing around the last few days. Oil pressure from 10-35 psi. Coolant from 120-150 deg (which is super cold).
Here's my question, are those two tied together at all? Maybe in the ECU? I didn't think the oil pressure went to the ECU but I could be wrong. Maybe its just one bizarre coincidence and both sensors are going bad at the same time?
I'm scared to drive it because I don't trust the gauges anymore.
Thanks
