Exclamation Coolant Temp Sensor Location for 88 jeep with different Motor?

Good Afternoon Jeep Enthusiast!!

Yes I am new to the Jeep forums and new to the Jeep Industry!

Here is the low down of my new project:

Just bought a 1988 Jeep Cherokee from my buddy for 500 doll hairs.

Its a 4wd lifted 5 1/2 inches of lift.

Its automatic. Its got the 4.0L inline 6 cylinder

History:

Previous owner blew 88 motor, so bought his shop teachers 97 Jeep Cherokee with 60,000 miles on it. Swapped the Motor into his 88. Used 88 Intake manifold, ecu, etc.

Issue:
Didn't connect Coolant Temperature sending unit or Coolant Temperature Sensor for the ECU. Jeep is running very rich and not showing engine overall temp. Engine is running very rich and back fires. Obviously too much fuel in the system. Sensor is probably reading -40 degrees. Located in Flagstaff, Arizona.

I tried:
Bought a new Coolant Temperature Sensor and mount it on the block like 88, "No Spot". Tried to mount sending unit, "No spot". Looking up Jeep Forums, and haven't found similar issue. My guess is to purchase 96 thermostat housing and mount Coolant Temperature Sensor in that, which is like newer Cherokees. I did buy the 88 Sensor since I have 88 ECU just to clarify.

Recommendations? Any help would be awesome. Happy Holidays!!

Thanks
