Coolant temp sensor?
Was under the Jeep (88 XJ) this past Saturday and noticed a sending unit just above the oil pan rail on the driver side. The plug is broken on the harness.
Is this the coolant temp sensor? It was completely unplugged/broken but the jeep seems to be running fine...?? What function exactly does it do?
Determine open/closed loop mode maybe?
