coolant temp guage wiring problem
1985 xj
2.8l
Hello, I am having a problem with the wiring between my temp gauge and the temp sensor directly behind my power steering pump. As i understand it, the sensor next to the radiator housing is for the emissions system, and the one behind the PS pump runs to the gauge. The guage sensor is a single stud, but the problem is there is no wire there. Instead, i have several wires that have been cut and taped into the harness containing the yellow and black wires that run to the intake temp sensor. I have no evidence but i suspect one of these wires is supposed to run from the sensor to the gauge. Anyone know which wire it should be? Or if these cut wires are not relevant to this issue? Or does anyone have a 2.8 and a picture of the wiring attached to this stud?

See if theres a green wire cut in that area you can turn ignition on have some one watch the gauge while grounding the wire gauge should rise when you got correct wire . If your indought check wire with test light to assure its not energized.

Was able to use the strategy of grounding each wire to find the guage wire, Did not turn out to be green, but was able to determine the right one, reconect wire to the sensor and now have a working gauge. Thanks alot
