Proud new owner of an 87 Cherokee 4.0L, only problem is when I drove it to work there's steam coming from under the hood right side, I walked out of the vehicle and coolant spills everywhere on the concrete, opened the hood and not sure where it came from, took out the thermostat and tested it, that wasn't the problem, maybe the water pump? It drove fine about 50 miles, only a few electrical problems I found but now this so I don't wanna drive it til I find out the problem, anybody else had a similar problem?

Ive had non stop problems with my cooling system until yesterday. I finally got everything solved. First you may want to go ahead and spend the 30 bucks on a new resivor and cap for your 87. Because the 84-90 model had a closed cooling system this is basically functioning as the radiator cap. Solved a bunch of my issues. Also take your airbox out and replace the lower radiator hose. Also I would suggest replacing the upper radiator hose. Mine I doubt has never been replaced. I so far have replaced the thermostat (which you should do too, even if yours isnt broke yet), the resivor, upper and lower radiator hoses. I am leak free now. Also make sure your resivor stays cool..This isnt necessarily an over flow tank. If its not full, youll run hot.
