Coolant Reservoir bottle sucks...
I just bought mine from Morris 4x4 Center. $26.99 + 6.99 s&h, total $33.98. Mine a 87 limited. Water pump went. Got that on. All hoses toast, and the plastic vacuum heater switch broke off. Got the complete heater hose set with clamps, for $55.95, and the heater valve for, $55.00. All at the same place, Kenosha County Classics. There web site is, http://wwwteamgrandwagoneer.com/ Total was $127.60, and it got here in a week.

and yes the stock ones do suck. Mine is showing stress cracks along the bottom and it leaks some. One more thing on my ever growing "to do" list

Hey Bluexj, how's that tank working for you? I'm sick of buying a new bottle every 5 years from my thermostat going out and overheating my system and then cracking my bottle. THinking of the upgrade...Have you overheated since? If so, has the aluminum catch tank caused any other problems in the overheating?? Thanks!!

I have heard there are about five different size reservoir caps for the closed cooling system on a Renix motor. I have also found that using a screw clamp on the cap solved all of the leaking issues and most of the overheating issues. I use the screw clamps on both my Renix XJ's and have had zero cap problems since.

I'll have to try that screw clamp idea... Everyone I know has had issues with that damn res bottle including myself. I had to replace that thing in my old XJ many many times.
these things are junk... does anyone make a metal one i can swap in? Mines blowing by the cap like crazy and i eventually end up over heating cause i loose all the fluid from steam... i see the same ones for sale on ebay like crazy but i know its just a matter of time before they do the same thing... has any one made there own? thanks for the time!
I have replaced my reservoir three times now, about every 5 years. Do you know of a metal one that fits the Jeep Wagoneer Limited edition 1987 6 cycle? Four wheel drive. Appreciate help as the new ones at Crystler are 80 dollars.

I have two XJ that had closed systems. Changed the DD to an open system about 3 months ago to see if it was a good idea. Works great, no more reservoir problem. Just changed my crawler last week, best thing i ever do for it. Now it sits between 185 and 195 all the time, even on a long uphill crawl. Very cheap to do, wish i had done it years ago.
I just went through 6 plastic bottles in the past month! I was getting them from http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/
They kept getting small fine cracks, usually around the bottom outlet. My temp has always maintained around 160 so overheating was not a factor. Each bottle would only last a few days then a crack would form and it would begin to drip. I finally broke down and bought a metal one from... http://www.macsradiatorshop.com/
Don't waste your time and money on plastic junk.

I am on my second cheap Chinese tank from ebay, they work for a week or so then start to leak at the mold seam. I would like a metal one, but $129 is a bit rich for me, anyone know of a cheaper option?
i bought my jeep for $500, the owner said it kept overheating and i took a look at it, the cap was letting coolant out, $20 fix lasted me 4 years. even tho i will be upgrading to a metal one soon, the tank looks like its about to pop.
Yep - I put one of those in 2 years ago and don't have to worry about it anymore. Here's the current link: http://macsradiatorshop.com/surge-ov...ill-tanks.html
