Default Coolant loss, smoke, knocking 2000 XJ

White smoke, smells like coolant, only visible source is near or around the feed hose to the radiator by the passenger headlight. Blocks from my house had a rough idle and knocking that sounded like the compressor fan was hitting something. Smoke was billowing out of the headlight cavity and grill. I had just done a full tuneup yesterday and didn't notice any misfires before this started happening. No check engine light, no overheating. I checked all of the hoses and there didn't seem to be any leaks at all and nothing was coming from the intake manifold or exhaust. I just want to pinpoint the problem so I can fix it right away. Any suggestions? It is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Ltd. Has new plugs and ignition coil pack.

Firstly you should start your own thread. This one is 12 years old.

What you described sounds like a failed head gasket or cracked head.

Do a cooling system pressure test.
Do a block test, testing for exhaust gasses in coolant.
Check condition of oil for signs of coolant contamination. It might be chocolate milk shake looking.

Lookup 0331 Jeep Head cracking.

Good luck.
