its the water pump leaking from behind happened to me might be worth thinking about doing the lot xj's are getting on in years go for broke new rad hoses pump thermostat and coolant you engine will love you

You can easily make sure the bearing is good or bad with a mechanic's stethoscope. They are cheap and priceless.

I ordered a new pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, gasket, and inlet tube. Thanks for the advice everyone.
