I have a 2000 jeep cherokee classic 4.0. I have Coolant leaking from somewhere around in front of the battery box. I can’t find the source, any suggestions would help please.
Upper hose and surrounding area looks dry so the side tank of the radiator might have a crack in it, side tank seal is leaking, the drain is leaking, or the core itself. You will have to get in there to get a good look. Remove the battery and the grille if you have to.
Also, perhaps the dentist style inspection mirror will help.
I had a tiny leak on a different vehicle a while back where I finally had to lay under it after driving home from work until it dripped before I could find where it was coming from.
If you really have bad luck you might end up having to add UV dye to the coolant and then using a UV flashlight to search it out.
Was it the radiator itself that was leaking? One time that hose backed off enough to leak, from me resting my jump box on it a few times, all I had to do was push it back up and tighten the clamp.
Make it easy on yourself. Replace the radiator and hoses.
Also agree with this, coming from someone who replaced just the radiator and not to long after blew a hose. Also the guy who replaced the 5 "easy" freeze plugs and am now dealing with the hard 2 after one failed.
likely the tank to fin area cracked. you can visually confirm with UV dye if you cant see it leaking clearly. Its common for the fin to core area where they meet to crack, it allows the leaks to trickle down and make it hard to see where its coming from.
Replace the radiator, and hoses/pump while you've got it all apart. Fix it soon, and do not let the engine overheat as the 2000 is prone to cracked heads when overheated.
