hey driving home yesterday parked my jeep and noticed coolant leaking out. when I crawled under and looked it was dripping right in between where the tranny and engine connect. any ideas on where it might be coming from? once it sits for a bit the leak stops so it only does it while warmed up. 93 cherokee 4.0

 

Could be one or more core plugs on the engine block or head. (not my pic)

 

would this cause the oil to leak in the same fashion?

 

Look to see if it's leaking from the head gasket and running down the back. That could explain both your coolant and oil leaks.

Or it could be something different.

 

sounds like a freeze plug

 

well I just bought this jeep and the back passenger side of the engine is caked with oil. so today after work I was going to de grease and pressure wash to determine where the oil leak is. the guy I bought it from had water only in the cooling system. the coolant leak didnt start till I flushed and filled with 50 50 of the green coolant.

 

"water only" in an iron motor.......not good.

 

well i sprayed the engine off got it nice and purty. oil is leaking from the valve cover. still havnt tracked down the coolant leak tough so I am assuming freeze plugs. the leak has slowed drastically tough I am guessing the coolant level has dropped causing the leak to slow? what do you all think?

 

If coolant level has dropped below the highest freeze plug, there's a lot of air in the cooling system and that certainly is NOT good.

 

Pour a bunch of 50/50 into your radiator cap when the engine is cold. Doubt it leaked that much....but.... jeebus, if it did!

 

will fill it back up today need to go recycle so we will see if it is low. just from my research everyone says to drop the tranny to get to the freeze plugs. no better way anyone knows of?
