Hello all. just signed up on the forums! i tried searching for coolant leak but didnt get much help since i dont know what this part is. for a few days ive noticed my coolant emptying out bone dry when ever i drive it a bit. i thought maybe it was burning it since i do get some smoke but my starter just recently died and i was under the hood while it was running and the coolant is just pouring out of this piece.



sorry for posting a question thread as soon as i sign up but i really need to get this fixed as i cant really drive it due to my coolant emptying. anyone have any idea what this is? and why the coolant is coming out of it so bad?

Edit: forgot to put that its a 87 cherokee 5spd 4wd. if that helps

 

Heater Control valve aka HCV. Best thing to do is eliminate it by cutting it off and extending the hose over to the metal pipe. Plug the vacuum line that goes to it at the same time.
