Default Coolant junction?

Hey All!

I was helping a buddy work on his 96 cherokee, and before I got there he broke a plastic peice that seems like a junction for the coolant lines. From the heater hoses it goes to the junction thing. Then to the thermostat housing. I took a picture below.

Any help of what this is would be greatly appreciated.

It's the heater control valve. It can be eliminated with no ill effects as long as you plug the vacuum line going to it.

Ditch the Fram oil filter while you're at it.

U can get hoses from a later year jeep such as a '99 to make it look cleaner in the engine bay instead of splicing the hoses together too.

I got '99. I told him to go with longer hoses vs rigging it. He needed new ones bad too. Just got the jeep, last owners let it set in their yard rusting away.

Fram filters are just fine. Don't buy into the brand bias in this forum.

It isnt the bias. I knew that beforehand because of an oil filter tear apart examination of multiple filters.

They are NOT fine. Facts is facts. They're a marketing scam pile of junk.

Anyone that would say that shows that they know nothing at all about OIL FILTERS period and should be ignored.

After you have cut open a few hundred different filters then you can make an intelligent decision about them based on filtering material in them and quality.

Hadn't got down this far yet Cruiser good one, wish I had taken photos over the yrs. of all the ones I cut open. Including what I found in some and what was going on in the engine.

Would you believe the very first filter I ever cut open was a Fram a long time ago and really couldn't believe how little material was in it for filtering.

Now Fred, don't go cluttering up threads with facts and first-hand experience. It's much better to throw out info based on emotion and a persecution complex, defending the poor underdog company that is probably singlehandedly responsible for more 4.0 failures than all other causes combined.

A little **** about oil filters? You've cut open hundreds over the last 25 years? That's just sick, man.

That is the ONE and ONLY video defending Fram. And, anyone can tell it was done by Fram for themselves.

Who is **** about filters here? And defending a company that knowingly produced inferior products and pawned them off on unsuspecting folks who expected a product that at least met MINIMUM standards?

Go look again. It's not a video made by fram. It was a post from a member of another jeep forum who visited the facility. But of course, if it's not the opinion of the CF elders it must be wrong... Give me a break!
