This is my Second Xj model with the complete Pressurized system. My 88 I replaces the bottle and the radiator, had no problems. Now I have a 90 Xj just really getting started. Replaced all the hoses over the weekend and the Thermostat, Now it is over heating worse. Was wandering if anyone had a diagram of where all these bloody hoses go, wandering if I mixed a couple up, ao a picture. I was already reading ahead, noticed the conversions with 94 jeep Radiator, will do later, this is my wifes only vehical, and I need to get it fixed asap
Thanks Jeramy

Well, I am confused on just what the issue is, you replaced the hoses and the thremostat on a 90 XJ, and it is over heating worse. So you have an over heating issue before hand then I would assume? What led you to the hoses being the issue? How fast does it over heat? How hard did it over heat when it did? Was it leaking coolant before? Need a lot more details with what is going on, WAY to many things that can be wrong without the details.

Chances are theres air in the system, radiator is clogged, or the water pump is not circulating coolant. You need to burp the system to get the air out, otherwise you run the risk of cookin the head. then once you have the air out you can check the rest of the cooling system.

This was last weekend, Yes I was getting leaks out of almost every hose end, Since they were all cracked or bloated. at the same time I had a thermostat staying closed. So instead of taking a picture of the hose system like I should have I ripped into it, and tore all the hoses out. Now that they are back together I am thinking I have the one from the water outlet and the one from the water pump mixed up. Also What is the best method of burping the system, just in case I also will try that again. maybe see if that is the problem. I never had that problem in the past, My method always worked before.
I would like at least to still get a diagram for that for my records
also once the temp hits 190 it rockets up in temp, and throws water out the reseviore. I tend to shut it down at about 220-240
again Thanks

I learned that buying used four things you always do no matter what the person you bought it from says. change the oil, Tune-up, check all fluids, and make sure that da*m automatic fan works in some shape or form.

Sounds toasty to me......radiator, water pump and fan clutch? Plastic shroud in place on the belt driven fan?

Really bad things (expensive to repair) can happen when an engine overheats. To burp the air, u let it idle with the cap off the rad or off the coolant bottle, keeping the system full of coolant while it idles. when coolant starts to overflow, put the cap back on.
Not sure what u mean by bypass? U talking about bypassing the heater core? To do that, u just loop a hose from the t-stat housing to the water pump.

if the two smaller hoses coming from water pump nipple and the thermostat housing nipple are backwards the water will not circulate thru the pressure bottle water must flow into the top nipple on the bottle it then flows back to the motor out the bottom nipple

hope this helps, water must flow in the top and out the bottom also the bottle does not get filled all the way with coolant,it has to have room for expansion

Probably air in the system. My old 90 XJ I converted to an open system and could not have been happier. I think I only had around $80 in the swap. It was money well spent.
