Default Coolant blockage on yhe head??

I'm about to reinstall my engine. I noticed that in one of the coolant ports near the front of the block that its blocked. Before I take out a drill and file this is supposed to be open to allow coolant to travel through yes?

Drop your head gasket on there and see if those are blocked or if they are steam holes. I had to take my head to get it cleaned because my holes were blocked up like that from the previous owners using WAY too much stop leak. I'm still getting that crap out of my engine almost a year later. Now is a good time to check your flow across the radiator too. Just to be on the safe side, I opened all of my passages. Blocked by the gasket or not.

As mentioned/asked.....does that hole in the block match with a hole in the head gasket?

Before I drilled holes in my block I would make darn sure that passage was supposed to be open.

I've seen blocks that had blanks like that in them on purpose.

Peck on it with a sharp tool. If that's cast iron under there, leave it alone. You could also check it with a magnet.
