Default Control arm bushing help

What is a good way to get these out. I was thinking of getting a air saw tomorrow and making some cuts to try and get it out. I was going at it with the chisel and air hammer for about 40 min and it's not budging. I don't wanna mess up the mount where it goes too.

Ball joint press kit and a torch. Torch the bushing housing with the ball joint kit set to press it out. If you rented a ball joint kit from an auto parts store put an impact on it. Letting WD or ATF sit on it over night before hand helps. Cutting and destroying them to get them out works too.

Heat that sucker up & puller it out! Beating on it can fubar the mount real quick. Hotter is softer til it melts! If the edges are peened over, grind them clean first. It will come out.

The short side one is tricky to get out, even with a press

To get them out, one way that works for sure is to burn out the rubber with a butane torch, scrape the residue

take a hacksaw blade, carefully relieve 1 or 2cuts in the outer steel shell, don't knick the housing

take a sharp punch, you can spilt the shell, and it will peel out fairly easy

I always freeze new installations, and heat the housing with butane

If you have trouble getting a press in there, you can make up a custom tool, using threaded rod, nuts and washers, and draw the item into place

What I did was put the pointed bit in the air chisel and pushed the outside of the bushing towards the inside collapsing the metal part. Took about 5 minutes per bushing.

When I replaced the bushings on my XJ I was installing a lift as well. I removed all components connected to the axle and rotated it forward so the bushings where facing forward. This allowed me access to swing a large hammer and chisel. This made short work of those bushings.

It appears that you have little if any rust, so removal of the remaining components (track bar, springs, sway bar, drive shaft, shocks.....) should be easy. I supported the axle on jack stands and was able to rotate it while still under the vehicle. This also aided in installing the new bushings. All of the other suggestions will work, this is the way I got the job done.

I'll get a good hacksaw blade and try making some relief cuts then getting it out with the air chisel. Wish I had a bigger air compressor I only have a 3 gallon one. If I can't get them out this week I'll just have some else do it. There is a shop like 5 buildings down from the warehouse I'm working on my car in.

If its getting too bad with access on the short side, as one other poster suggested, dropping the control arms etc allows axle to be accessed much easier

The trick to getting them back together is use a couple of jacks to strategically rotate the housing, and a pointed drift to align each part
