Conflicting information, Could SOMEONE clear things up? Thanks!
My 96 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 4wd automatic baby has been in the garage for the past 8 months, perhaps 9.
There is a half a tank of gas in it. I have been told I need to drain the gas from the tank before I drive it. I understand that gas now has 10% ethanol in it and over time it breaks down and as some call it is essentially "varnish".
Do I need to drain the gas and fill it with fresh gas? Do I need to fill it up and add something like this to it, http://goo.gl/oxtlvo to help get rid of the gas that's in the line already?
My Jeep has SO many new parts in it, it's crazy, as I wanted to do some major preventative maintenance to her to keep her good to go for years to come (my fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator/fuel assembly is in the gas tank and it was shot, and as most early 96 XJ owners know, this is a major problem seeing they don't make the fuel assembly any longer, and the fuel pressure regulator is not meant to be replaced individually blah blah blah)
Just need to know how to go about the gas that's in the tank, again theres about 10 gallons in it, that's been in it for the past 8 to 9 months.
I've already started her up; completely forgetting about draining the gas and lets just say it ran horribly rough for the few minutes I had it started.
Thanks!

Is the fuel treatment I mentioned ( http://goo.gl/oxtlvo ) one you'd recommend, or is there one you would recommend?

There are many fuel treatments out there. I grew up using the Berryman's B12 Chemtool. I had a mechanic friend that told me about Seafoam. When I can afford it, that is what I use or when I'm broke, I use the B12. You can get both at Wally-World or just about any parts house.

If you have a plastic fuel tank and your evap system is in good shape I would not be concerned about just a few months. Some water remover to be safe.

My fuel tank is metal... the 2nd half of 96 it is plastic.
I was deciding between the Rislone and the Sta Bil, so I am guessing Sta Bil is the way to go, I am sure both will work just fine.
I have a few cans of Sea Foam, bought em months back when they were $4 a can

Ken I should just have you on speed dial. I've asked 4 questions in 2 different forums over the past month or 2 and you've chimed in with all of them and helped me out each time.
My Jeep is going to be thrilled to be back on the road.
