Just recently as im driving my 98 jeep cherokee classic 4.0l at random times for no rhyme or reason the tach and speedo drop and my airbag light flashes. Only reason i think it may be this is i had another vehicle do the same thing. And another thing anything i fix for my check engine light does not work properly such as o2 sensors and other little things. its all just adding up and i dont know what else it could be other than a short. If i have a short this thing is going up for sale. Please Help.

If the tach and speedo and such go out and the engine stays running, the primary suspect is the connections to the dash cluster. Actually a pretty common problem.

Remove the dash cluster, get a can of spray electrical contact cleaner and thoroughly spray the dash cluster connections, add a dab of dielectric grease (very important) and reconnect.

The above procedure often resolves this.

 

Computer bad, doubt it. Bad ground, I would put money on.
