Check Engine Light came on for code p0455. I purchased a new gas cap from a Dealership but had no luck. It's ID'd as a Major EVAP leak. I found the green cap under the hood and hand tightened it. I followed the lines around the firewall to the driver's side of the engine and pushed the hoses tighter on the fittings. Fingers came out blackened (I think b/c of the charcoal canister?) Anyway, still have the CEL light. Could a faulty muffler cause this? Local shop wants $120 for a smoke test. It could be my fear of the light, but I think the Kee's performance is lacking now.

2001 Cherokee Sport 4WD. 96K miles.

 

Black fingers are normal, if you touch anything in the engine bay. You C-Canister should be under neath by the fuel tank. Inspect all evaphoses for cracks. Is exhaust leaking or the intake.
