Completely lost on getting my xj to start
About two weeks ago I had to start using a portable jumper cable to get the jeep started. Once it was running it had no problems besides the ac going out twice but would come back on. A week ago the jeep wouldn’t start at all even with a jump. I thought it was the alternator so I replaced that, that didn’t work. I got the battery checked and it was good, I replaced the ignition switch, and still nothing. I checked the ground and fuses and everything looks fine. I can pull the light switch and the dash and headlights come on, interior lights work too. I turn the key and no ac or anything. Please help I’m completely lost. Thank you

I have found 2 rules to be true on XJs (at least on my 98 and 99).
1. They do not like marginal batteries. You might get them started, but they do not like to idle on a marginal battery.
2. Replace/check the simple things first. Clean connections. Check grounds etc.
When you say no AC when you turn the key, do you mean the blower motor doesn't turn on?

battery cables have corroded inside the insulation (you can sometimes feel a soft spot or see the insulation is disfigured)
starter is saturated with oil or is the process of self terminating (remove and have tested at parts store)
ignition switch wires overheated and burnt (inspect by removing the clam shell cover on steering column and look from under the column for discolored or burnt wiring)
Jeeps have a tendency to have unconnected symptoms....the above addresses the starting issue.
Hope this helps

Disconnect battery. Find Obdii port(datalink). Insert dvm set to ohms across pins 6 and 14. You should see 120 ohm. If anything else start systematically checking network.
Pin #'s might vary. Check service manual.
Grounds need to be removed, cleaned, inspected.
Power verified.
