I picked up a 96 Cherokee for $600, but it needed a rear driveline. I went to the pick and pull and got one, but it was out of an older vehicle, and it's too long. I can exchange it, but I don't want to come home with the wrong one again. (It's 40 miles away).

I'm assuming I need one that is out of a '96 or newer xj, and has the chrysler 8 1/4 like mine does?

Do I have any other options? Any info is appreciated.

Yeah, driveshaft. How would u joints help me? I need to know what other xj's have the same rear driveshaft mine does.

 

It had no driveshaft? Odd.

Any XJ with an 8.25 and the same trans will fit. If yours is an auto, look for auto. Manual, look for a manual. Any 91+ should hve the chance of coming with an 8.25.

 

I don't know. The one I got from the junk yard was out of '91+ with the 8.25, and it's too long. Guess I'll take measurements before I go back.
