My $.02 is this; I like the look of it simply because its different. I dont want MY XJ to look like everyone elses. Some people want to be part of the crowd, some want to stand apart. Personal preferance - like I said, I like this look.

if you look close to the green jeep their commander lights are a little too long for the bezel and the head panel. So if you used these headlights you are going to have to cut out the head panel to make them fit. i wouldn't do it. You don't want your jeep to look more like another Jeep. That's just weird. Keep it original. And if you want a headlight upgrade. Get an HD light kit for your headlights.

I like the way it looks and glad someone did it and posted pics. I noticed the haters have not posted since the pics of it done were posted.

The way I see it.. who gives a damn what anybody else thinks. It's your ride not thiers and if we all liked the same thing this place would be real boring. Besides, if it wasn't for someone thinking outside the box things would not be where they are today. I bet there were people that thought Bob Chandler was stupid for putting tractor tires on his F250 and driving it over cars.... or when someone put rockwells on a rock crawler... or exocages, or tube buggies, even caddy tail lights etc. I bet the first person to lift a vehicle was met with alot of criticism and concerns of safety. Look where we are today....

I hate it when people post on here wanting to know how to do something or if something will work and all they get is a bunch of people telling them how stupid or ugly it is. And this is supposed to be the "friendly forum"? If you don't like it and have nothing technical to add then don't say anything at all.

I agree. i think it looks pretty cool and different, and yet still funtional. I just dont get why people have to be so negative on someones idea. Yes it may not be a decent mod if you do hardcore offroading. But if someone said they wanted to bag their XJ and get some 24" rims for their rig it seems to me most people on here that disliked the idea would do the same thing. Its their rig, their money, with all this going on it seems to me we're starting to be like NAXJA and just bash people on their ideas.

Congrats on doing the mod, it's definitly different. I like it!!!

I'm not bashing. I'm being honest. I think it looks awful because those lights were in no way designed to fit an XJ. Even though he made them fit you can tell they don't go with the lines of the vehicle. That's just my opinion though. If someone wants to do it go ahead but prepare for guys to be honest.

I would change one thing to the headlight mod, I would move up the headlight housing up a little bit so that not the whole bottom header part is completley cut away. I would move it up and follow the cuts and still have the bottom and upper part of the header on. It just looks a little funny when the whole part of the bottom header is gone.

Edit: I just realize if I moved up the headlight housing up a little, the top lines would not match the grille. Ummm.

Yeah I see it. I think it will look decent if it was moved up a little bit. I just don't like how the whole bottom header part is cut away.

Right... but for easy of installation I think keeping the upper part of the light in the stock area and only doing two straight cuts at the bottom would be best. Rather than trying to make a nice clean curved cut around the upper contour of the lense/housing. The new Liberty has the bottom of the light even with the bottom of the grille. I wonder if it would look better on an XJ if it was centered. A little bit above the grille and a little below.. ??

what if you could shave a little bit off the headlight itself? that way to make it fit? could that be a possibility?

I think it would look better with a chrome grille, tube bumper, & winch! It would help take the focus off of the lines that don't match up! When I swap out for a newer year I will be looking into this mod!!!

Good idea on the chrome front grille. Never thought of that.

If i was going to do it myself, I was going to template and trace out the headlight and then put the template on the header and see where to cut after it been adjusted to the liberty look. (raised above the XJ grille to keep the lower and upper part of the header) I don't want to have the lower part of the header completely cut away. I like me a perfect cut header so it looks stock.
