Default Comanche Trany

I have an 89 Comanche. 4x4, 4.0, 5 speed. What kind of transmission is this and is there a better one to put in there? My transmission is starting to slip and I know I will have to do something about it soon. I priced having it rebuilt and got a price of $1500. Seeing as how I only have about $400 in the truck I was wondering if anyone would know a more cost effective solution. Don't think it is the clutch because if feels like it is slipping in the gear as you accelerate.

thanks

its your clutch.

slipping in gear is exactly what happens when your clutch is bad. if the tranny was bad it would fall out of gear or grind going into gear or the gear will not be there at all.

Not much else to slip besides the clutch.

you will want to buy a quality clutch kit. valeo is a decent name that comes to mind. Probably looking at $2-300 by the time its all said and done with new trans fluid and all. Its not too bad you just have to removed the transmission. can be a pain depending on your mechanical skill

If you got the money to spend, I got a good lux clutch from a local transmission shop installed and warranted for 5 years for 500$
