Check out the builds section and search for home brew cold air intakes. A lot of fellas have made their own for a whole lot less than the store bought variety and I'm not sure they name brand ones are any better. Course, I don't know jack.

That is a great article and largely shoots my first post down. With the description and all of the details with photos, I'd think that would be a great resource for those of us who want to build our own.

Guys, don't waste your $ on the "name brand" intake kits. I just installed my c.a.i. from ebay ($37 w/shipping, got it $3 cheaper w/best offer). I bought the kit w/out the k&n and a generic instead and it's sweet. With a k&n it costs like $80. The kits are on ebay motors under intake. Kit comes w/ a mandrel bent al. tube and all the hardware. You need to fab a support, but no big deal. I plan on isolating the filter with aluminum or something. Sorry no pics, but it looks like the aem, etc.

You two should post a link to the ones you bought so others can take a look.

On CAI if it does not have a heat sheild around the filter it is not a CAI just an open air intake nothing more. It's not taking in cold air if it's open sitting next to the intake and exhaust manifolds..
