This is true but things could be better cause the factory is trying to please everyone. How many 90 year old women do you think want to hear the noise of their engine sucking in air the CAI amplify or a louder free flowing exhaust. just my 2 cents

Now I'm not knocking on all cold air intakes or aftermarket companies. Many wheelers have good reason for wanting a snorkel, and air taken from farther away from the radiator and exhaust manifold would be colder. Just remember that throwing money at the vehicle doesn't always make it better.

Well, you're right. Rounding off things for a larger user base would probably nerf the performance down a bit. All the same, you can probably see how I would trust the jeep engineers over a couple pringles cans and duct tape. lol

A Ram Air Intake(largest filter possible on stock intake tube) will net a VERY noticeable gain in bottom end/off idle torque and response and could help during rock crawling. I have a Ram Air and Cold Air Intake... Cold Air feels substantially stronger on the top end. Just go buy a $40 Spectre Cone Filter and put it on the stock intake elbow tube..... More noticeable off idle then $300 kits.

I picked up one from a older guy on craigslist. He didn't like the extra noise that it put out when he gave it gas. Anyways, I only paid $15 and it's a K&N with a fairly new filter.

I do have an ebay intake with "heat" shield. Though it is shiny and seems to add a little seat of the pants action, I have noticed a little splatter on the heat shield. Apparently an air box serves a purpose.
For less money I could have had a diy cowl cold air intake that offers some protection from the elements. See https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/my...snorkle-67919/

That's the way I'm going to go when I get a little DIY time. My two cents anyhow.

I did quite a bit of navel gazing on this one. "Cold" air intakes do work minimally, see Jeep TJ Wrangler - Intake Shootout The Full Story On 10 Intake kits
