Okay, I've done my search and find alot of info for the renix system, but not a whole lot for the HO. Check engine light came on and I reset the ECM. No issues and I assumed it was an erroneous code.
Wouldn't start the other morning. Pulled the code (54).
It's obviously the CMP or the Crank sensor.
Considering that the code states (per Haynes) to replace the sync sensor, has anyone done this on a 97 and fixed it?
I'm runnin a slim budget til friday and would like to get it fixed.
The cam sensor is 60.00 and the Crank is 88.00
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,

I figured, but I was curious if there was anyone else that had this issue?
I'm gonna go buy the part today and take a healthy whack at it.
Thanks again for the help.

I may be wrong, but the distributor pickup I think would be the pickup coil, which is the plastic disk with a wire under the cap. Much easier and cheaper to changeOriginally Posted by sigsandjeeps

Oh, and I don't know what year they went to 3 coils and no dist. If it is in 97, and it don't have a cap, its right where the dist used to be. If it does have a dist, its under the cap. and its very simple to change, 12min instead of 5....
Well, got the part here when I got off of work. I will put it in tomorrow. Will let you know when I get it done and if it's fixed.
Alright, replaced the part. Started right up. How can I clear the CEL on the dash? For whatever reason, the part I pulled off looked completely fine. Oh well, it's running. Any help on the CEL is appreciated.

Next time you have to clear a CEL code you can just pull the fuse for a minute or two so you don't have to reset the radio settings.
