So a few weeks ago, I started up and it was running rough (sounded as if it were only running on five cylinders) and saw my CEL come on. I drove it home and it ran and idled fine. When I got home, I checked the code and saw that it was 27. The next time I started back up (hours later),no CEL. I have not had a single CEL since then. Yesterday, after a few errands and sitting for a few hours, it happened again. This time I shut it down and started again and it went away. What could be causing a very intermittent code? Possibly dirty fuel lines?

The code means "fuel injection circuit"? That would cause me to think bad injector or bad injector wiring.

Me too... so you're saying fuel injectors go bad? Or it could just be debris the line? I haven't done anything (tampered with) to my fuel lines, injectors or wiring. It has only happened twice in the last two months, out of nowhere.

No maintenance at all? that's probably the problem.

I have a 95 myself and had fuel injector issues. At first it was very intermittent like what you're describing. Then before you knew it every time I started her up she ran like complete crap. Here's the thread I created a while back: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/70...poorly-159673/

In short, you can check your injectors continuity with a multimeter. Check each injector. No special tools are required to disconnect the injectors on a 95. However, if your issues are intermittent, I'd imagine the continuity might show good on the bad injector if it's not acting up when you test. If one or more are clogged, I think they'll pass the continuity test but code 27 will still be thrown. I'm not certain about that though.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to pull them out and give the ports a good cleaning. Mine were really gunked up. I did an injector upgrade while I was at it and it was definitely worth it. Just don't go with the Ford injectors! I had nothing but issues with those if you do decide to upgrade.

My 1995 XJ has the check-engine light on continuously with that code for a few weeks now. I can't say I notice it running any worse than normal. (I kid: the leaky exhaust is a distraction.)
