Default Cobra CB trouble

hello everyone. My Crappy CB doesn't like to work anymore. It would display the channel, and make noise when I turned the squelch way up, but I think someone was goofing in my car and left it on, so now it won't display anything. Blown fuse maybe? Overheated? If fixable, Do I have to program it somehow, or do something with the antenna? I don't have instructions, it was from the PO. Its a cobra 19 ultra II.

PS Newb move. dropped a spark plug wire in oil today. Got completely covered, will it still work fine?

there is an inline fuse in the harness coming out of the back of the cb.
and check to make sure the ground wire coming from the harness is grounded somewhere.
check the power wire to be sure it is getting power.
and check the antenna to be sure it is hooked up fine.

and no need to re program anything.

cb's are very simple units.

and just clean up that spark plug wire with some brake cleaner then spray with wd-40 and dry it off completely, it should work fine.

Hi, if you still have trouble with the CB after following Caged advice let me know and I will try to help. I was a 2 way communications tech and have done many CB's and other 2 way radio mods and repairs...Tj

I really appreciate the help guys. Thanks. Have the whole jeep apart right now, so won't get to try those things for a while. My friend might just be an idiot, but he said that there is something that I need to adjust on the antenna? Its just like a 2ft one that mounts on my roofrack. Is this true?

well, if it won't display anything, you probably have a problem with either the power or ground. unless the board got fried by keying up the mic with no antenna mounted.

and, yes, you may need to match the antenna using an swr meter.

here's a link to some informative reading. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question490.htm
