So the hydraulics for my clutch went out on my '94 XJ, I ordered the assembly and the master cylinder is quite different from the old one, smaller flange and bolt spacing, one stud instead of 2? I'm looking up parts for this thing and everything looks like the one I was sent, which is wrong for my Jeep. From pictures it looks like one from a newer XJ? Nothing on the firewall appears to be modified so I'm totally confused. I need to get this girl going but need a setup that will fit! Any ideas??

Maybe there was an transmission swap before you bought it?? Can you look at the P/N for the tranny to verify its the one?
The problem isn't the slave cylinder, the new one looks identical to the old one, it's the master cylinder. From pics it looks like one for a '97-up Cherokee.

I should have taken a side-by-side pic of the two, hard to tell from those pics. The diamond-shaped flange and stud spacing on the old one (top) is much larger than the new one (bottom). New one will not even bolt up to the firewall because of it. Unless I can get a definitive answer I'm going to order a newer one, luck can't get much worse. Ordered 2 so far, first box I opened up just contained a freaking hose, now this...

So either order a 1998 master clutch, or do what is needed to fit the "correct" 1994 style back into your jeep.
The mounting bracket might have been altered or swapped in order to fit the later master clutch into your 1994 jeep, if so maybe it is easiest to simply install the late model type into you jeep, since that is what has already been fitted, and evidently the "correct" master wont fit anymore, without modification to what ever mounting bracket you have now.
What part# did you buy?
What model engine?
Are you sure it's a 94?
Did other stuff get Frankensteined?
Part number cross references 52104110, it is 4.0 with 5-speed, VIN says it's a '94, the only thing I've found changed on it is the rear brakes have been upgraded to early Grand Cherokee disc.
The weird part of all this is it doesn't look like anything was modified on the firewall to fit the later style m/c

Yeah looks like '97-'99 all had that type of master cylinder. Again, I'm baffled because the firewall would have to be modified to accept the newer style, and it doesn't look like it was
