Default Clutch losing fluid overnight

Good Morning all,

Interesting development. It appears that I have developed a leak somewhere. Since it has gotten cooler, I noticed a leak in the morning and had no clutch. Refilled the master cylinder and bled the lines...and all is good until the next morning. During the day I see no evidence of a leak on the ground, however in the morning there is a small pool of fluid. I am thinking that something is happening to the gasket somewhere as the engine/transmission heats and cools. Any thoughts on this?

I will have it on a lift Thursday evening to look closer.

It is the AX15 Tranny on an '87 Cherokee.

Thanks,

- Jeff -

If it is the original slave then it is internal and they are famous for leaking. Most people that retain that system have to replace the slave abouit every year or so. Some that are used more require an even shorter cycle of replacement.

I will find out on Thursday evening. If it is the slave...and so far that makes more sense than anything I can come up with...I hope to find a replacement that may be a bit more robust and will last longer than the stock one.

Either way...I will have it fixed by the weekend.

The Cherokee is on the lift...and yep the slave cylinder is leaking. Also noticed the clutch plate is a little worn so that it getting replaced to. Someone here has said the slave cylinder lasts about a year or so. If this is the case...next year if I have to replace it again, I would like to see if there is a mod available to move this from internal to external. Getting to the slave cylinder has been a PITA for someone that is relatively new to working on anything at this depth.

So has anyone been able to do this. I figure I will have about a year to get the parts and be ready when it goes again.

Looks like I will not get it back together before the weekend as I had thought I would.

Thanks,
