Hello!

I have been hearing some strange on/off noise.
It seems like it's coming from where the gear shifter is located.
The noise is.. hmm... squeaky? maybe something like shredding paper / cricket chirping.

I noticed that if I press the clutch pedal just a little bit, the noise goes away.
When I am driving, I hear the noise coming on and off.

So, I am guessing the noise has something to do with the clutch.
I don't think the clutch is worn out, it's not slipping at all.
Could it be the clutch fluid problem? Should I change it? is there something else that could be causing this?

Never a bad idea to change old brake fluid. Your cylinders last longer that way.

But, I don't think it's the cause of your squeak.

 

Cherokee clutch bleeding isnt very user friendly, there is not bleeder valve

 

The earlier ones had them. When did the design change?

 

when they went to external slave, er 94?

 

I left the dealership at the end of 1992. Mostly a Renix guy. Is it a sealed system?

 

The noise sounds like the throwout bearing.

 

Yep, or pilot bearing.

 

I'm guessing a pilot bearing. Since it's making noise when he's not pushing in his clutch. When my slave went out in my AX-15, I replaced everything. Master, slave, clutch, pressure plate, fly wheel, and the pilot bearing. My old bearing was shot. I knew it was bad before even tearing into her. Made a loud chatter noise until i depressed the pedal. With the new bearing and everything in, the jeep is happy!
