So i'm about to buy a '99 Cherokee from a buddy of mine. When he bought it, the cluster did not work. No tach, no speedo, no gas/oil pressure/voltage guages/mileage...nothing. JUST the gas light comes on when it hits low fuel. Any ideas?

I guess they have already tried to pull the cluster and computer and try to replace them to see if it would change but nothing changed.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated

When you pulled the cluster did you check the connections to see if they were dirty and or corroded?

Being that it's all of them I'd want to check that it's grounded right. Could be they get different feeds, but share the ground.

Doubt it's an issue, Idk if any 0331 heads came out in 99 or not, but you might want to check...drivers side top edge....

I had similar problems with mine plus I was getting no spark at the plugs after two hundred dollars I found out that a couple ground wires had broke off. Mine was on the passenger side of the motor block. There was about 4 or 5 wires attached to one bolt I changed the ends and everything worked great again .your buying a newer model but not a lot changed so its worth a look

Ground wires by ecu, check all fuses, and clean plus dielectric grease cluster connectors

I had the same problem, and my dome lights were not working. I read a thread on here that talked about the constant power wire coming from the battery to the radio. I pulled the radio and found I did not have a constant 12volt source. I ran a new wire from the battery to the constant wire for the radio and presto, everything started working. Before this I tried absolutely everything and this simple 15 min fix did the trick. Good luck!!

Huh, now that you say that I will have to check that out. My radio won't even power up so that sounds like it could be the source as well. Thanks so much for all the help guys

Check the IOD fuse, it's a small 10A fuse in the underhood PDC. If it's blown or missing you'll have no gauges, no radio, and sometimes no dome lights depending on how it's wired.

running a new wire doesn't fix the fact that the old could be broken somewhere, causing a short to everything.


If you're having all those issues, replace the interior fuse panel, or at least remove and inspect it. I bet it's got alot of corrosion on the back side.

sooo we've dug into it today. holy mess. the plugs at the fuse panel on passenger were corroded and cleaned. still no power to the constant power wire at the panel. the harness running from the drivers connector to fuse panel replaced, still nothing. any ideas? we are about to by pass and butt of as much of this wire as possible and run it to the battery with a fuse link...

I did the same thing...tore fuse panel out and cleaned everything and still had nothing, that's why I ran a wire straight from the battery and connected it to the constant wire for the radio...and it's been working perfect.

The fuse panel is shot. Replace it. Then fix the leak in your windshield

I once had an un-fused wire short on my 72 Celica. (Black). When it burnt into the harness, it energized the wipers so when I happened to look down from a second story deck they where going and smoke was coming out around the hood. Unique look, a real head turner.

Hope when you trace your open it's not that big harness plug on the firewall. (the equivalent of your infamous C-101 on your 88). Once on a Dodge van I ran a wire right through one of those, for brake lights I think.

welp...exchanged fuse panels with my boyfriends 99 and still nothing so we took a wire ponytailed with the constant wire and used a jumper wire at the fuse panel...works like a charm. Thanks for all the advice guys, it helped a lot.

Did you check the IOD fuse I mentioned earlier? It' s under the hood.
