Original owner of a '97 stock XJ Country. Has the Selec-Trac and AW-4 Transmission.. When I take it out of 4WD it seems like it takes a while for the 4WD to disengage. So if I turn during this time my turning radius is more limited. Last winter I had disengaged the 4WD but it didn't disengage before I got to the circle to drop my duck boat in.. and there was a clunk.. Now whenever I even make a slight turn in 4WD it clunks and clicks, doesn't have any problem or sounds in 2WD.
My question is.. Do you think it's the front differential, or the tranny, or transfer case?
