I was tacing in a custom roof rack for my canoe using a mig at 105amp. Didnt disconnect the neg terminal.

Starter bench tested fine. in it just repeatedly clicks. at proper voltage how ever the gauge shows just under 10 v. Swapped computer and that didnt help.

seems i fried something any ideas on what to look for first? any other ideas?

Thanks

The two most likely failures are probably the PCM, and the alternator diodes.

Charge the battery and see if it will start. Ain't happening at 10 volts. If it will start once the battery is charged, time to check the alternator.

Its in the ignition sub system. with pcm, starter, coil and alternator disconnected im still getting the drain when pulling the 60 amp ignition fuse.

blueridgemark i think your spot on with the fried diodes.

am i missing a connection or is that hard wired into the harness? cant see where to disconnect it????

Is it one click or numerous clicks ?
Clicking starter 99 percent of time is bad connection.

Many have done so, many times. Others have fried things the first time, or the 307th time.

It does happen. For the great effort it takes to disconnect the ground terminal, it does not make sense to risk an alternator or PCM.

Agreed but checking simple fixes first like we both suggested how did that turn in a draw ?

start here, replace battery, charging may not be of any help, put everything back to what is was, including the pcm...then try to start it and report back....you may have just fried the battery when you were welding, or the battery was already on its way out and you over reacted when the vehicle suddenly didn't start...also double check starter and battery connections for good solid tight fit

The battery was charging and looked ok. But i had it load tested and ny had 47 CCA from 720. So weak just charging the ignition system was bringing it down to 9v. Over thinking the mig shorted out electronics.
Thanks for the input gentleman
