Default cleaning the IAC with carb cleaner

so im basically doing a complete tuneup to my rig, and tomorrow im going to be cleaning the IAC, can I use carb cleaner on it? or should i go buy a can of TB cleaner? is there anything i need to take caution on when cleaning it or is it just as simple as unscrewing it, unpluging it, clean, reinstall.

It is that easy. Disconnect, unfasten and draw it out gently (after breaking the gasket bond - which doesn't require very much force). Do not twist/screw the actuator but do inspect/clean as well as you can. You definitely want to use throttle body cleaner. If you can, run a soft bristled brush through the bore while soaked with cleaner. Don't use anything that can cause scratches.

I did this job last year and it fixed the idling/stalling issues I was having. I highly recommend it. I would say be careful with the IAC as it's a fragile little part. Definitely don't twist the thingy when you get it out or while cleaning it. I used an old toothbrush and throttle body cleaner. Destroyed the toothbrush but brought my 10 year old IAC back to life. While you're at it, you can clean the throttle body too, as well as that plate inside that opens when you step on the accelerator (umm, yeah, don't know what to call it, as my Haynes manual is at home and I'm not). Good luck! I think you will be happy with the smoother idle you'll have afterwards.

I got my throttle body cleaner at Advance Auto Parts. Probably any auto parts store would have this. I don't know if Wal Mart has it or not.

It never hurts to unplug the battery when working on anything electrical. Chances are you won't fry it, but you never know. I would rather re-input my radio station presets than have to buy a new IAC. Just my 2 cents.

WalMart should sell throttle body cleaner. CRC brand in this area.

And that is what you should use. Don't use carb cleaner. Too harsh and can damage the coating on the throttle body!
