Cleaned NSS, Now won't crank
1997 XJ, 4.0L, Automatic
Here is what I did. Noticed that the backup lights not working, so I read the post about cleaning the neutral safety switch (NSS). Did it "by the book" and the inside was gooked up, just like I thought. One of the connections was embedded in dry grease. After cleaning and coating with terminal grease, I put it back on and "yeah" the backup lights are working.
Now for some strange reason it won't crank. Turns over strong, battery showing voltage tested strong, so I timidly put a screwdriver in the coil wire and grounded to metal and I am not getting a spark. I assume that if it turns over, the NSS is fine.
Recently, I have replaced the CPS, the wires, plugs, dist. cap and rotor. I am stumped!! Any ideas would be appreciated.
