Default cleaned my NSS today, have a slight reverse light problem...

so i took the time today to remove, inspect, and clean the NSS today.

cleared my CEL codes, and all is good with that. (i wasn't having any NSS problems before the cleaning, except the CEL for codes P0700, and P0705)

the reverse light on the passenger side light's up, but it light's up really dim.

at first i thought it was something with the factory trailer hitch wiring, so i unplugged the "T" harness, and plugged the brake light harness into the chassis harness, checked all the grounds, and also checked all the contacts/pins for both brake lights.

all of the bulbs in both brake lights are brand new.....what could be causing this dim reverse light on the passenger side?

So what you are saying is the driver's side is FINE.
JUST passenger's side is dim.

Pull buld and inspect the socket.

Switch bulbs from the other side and note if there is any change.
If the DIM changes then its the bulb.

If not, test the contacts inside the socket and see if it is geting a full 12v.

If not...then there is a problem with the wiring to that specific socket.

i removed the NSS from the vehicle, took it apart, cleaned all of the old grease out of it with an elecrical contact cleaner solution, polished the copper contacts with 2000grit sandpaper, cleaned all gaskets, re-greased everything, put it all back together, and re-installed on the vehicle.

i solved my CEL problem by cleaning the NSS, so it was a success.

im thinking the light bulb sockets on the passanger tail light are corroded. (im actually hoping thats what the problem is)

i cleaned all sockets, checked all the wiring, and adjusted the NSS...the passanger side reverse light is still dim when in reverse.

also, when the headlights are on, and my right turn signal is on, and stepping on the brakes....the turn signal, and brake light on the passenger side flash (quickly) at the same time, when i let off the brakes, the turn signal flash's normally.

any idea's?

Sounds like a ground problem...
I dont think its related to the NSS, Pry just a coincidence that it happened at the same time.
All the NSS does is tell the TCU/ECU what gear the trans is in.

yes, the problem was there before the NSS cleaning.

i cleaned the NSS thinking that was the problem, i dont have any of the NSS usual problems when the unit fails.

it sounds like a grounding problem to me too, but i have checked all the grounds, and replaced the firewall-cylinder head ground.

k... You have checked the grounds, but You should pry go through; spray them all with contact cleaner, clean it up with steel wool and reattach.
I would also check the voltage at the socket.
Do you need a wiring diagram?

by checking the grounds, i cleaned all contact area's with a wire wheel on a dremel. and then bolted them all down so fresh metal touches fresh metal.

all of the fuses are good. all electronics are oem, no aftermarket wiring.

a wiring diagram would help.
