Quote: Hi everyone, OK did the water thing and I got four codes that will not turn off with my scanner. 1997 xj 4.0 w/auto trans. Codes 300,301,304,306 as far as I know these are misfire codes and I can't clear them with my scanner. Do I have to drive it for awhile before CEL goes off? I have driven it about ten miles and the light is still on. Thanks, Dan
How are you clearing them? For jeeps, they have to be key on engine off off the clear to take effect. If they are running, they will not clear.

Eventually i will go off, if there are no more misfires. I believe it is 40 drive cycles without a fault code set and it will turn its self off.

Quote: So why bother with it then?
it is progression. it burns clean and is equivalent to 104 octane. one could increase power output 25-30% if it was utilized properly. i would be using it in mine 100% of the time if chrysler had a ecu that was worth a ****.

the benefits far outweigh the cons. I've used it personally for awhile and also seen it used first hand in a wide range of applications. unleaded gasoline is a terrible fuel. lucky for you gas people - oil runs the world.

I just came here to +1 this. Even without ethanol it's crap. Luckily the engines that burn it are simple.

Probably out of one of my parts Cherokees. I don't drink sodas...

Used a heat gun to form it so it would generate just the right vortex of H2O for the best results when doing the procedure. I had to consult with some guys at NASA, but the result is nothing less than stellar.

Guys I need help. I tried this out and apparently Im the only idiot who didn't have positive results LOL. Here is what I posted in other thread:

so I decided to give this a shot. And now I think I may have caused something to go fubar. Now the engine seem to idle good, but when I rev it up and release gas peddle the RPM's will drop really low and almost want to turn off. If I rev it really high and let go of peddle RPM's will drop and it will actually turn off. Now I also kinda noticed some smoke or something come out of oil filler cap when I have it off. I had the engine REV'ed up to around 2000-2500 RPMS when I did this.

Yes I got a Check engine light come on. I don't have a scanner at the moment so I won't be able to tell you what codes came on. Like I mentioned, it'll actually IDLE fine. I did notice also the first time I turned it on after I finished this steam clean that it rev'ed up really high for a while and then came back down.

I bet it's the throttle position sensor. I would want to know what codes it says.

I'll get me a scanner tomorrow. Looking up the symptoms for TPS failures it seems about right. Why do you think after doing this steam cleaning it would throw the code? maybe I got water on it, or something.

Yup. Not a great seal on the throttle shaft.
