Cigarette lighter wiring plug
My 88 MJ/Comanche is about as de-optioned as it gets. For example, it has no cigarette lighter. I bought an aftermarket one but wondering where to wire it. There are a bunch of unused plugs under the dash in the wiring harness, maybe one of those went to a cigarette lighter in stock configuration? That would save me having to cut into the harness or jump into the fuse box.

Probably just accessory mode. The only advantage that I can think of to have it running all the time is for charging a cell phone or something like that and being able to walk away from the truck. But at this point, whatever works easiest and safest. I'd kind of like it to still be fused which is why I'd like to go through the plug.

get a test light at the out parts stor and check the open slots on your fuse box. you will see that slots 3, 10, 12, and 14 in the fuse box are empty. One of those(i can't remember off hand which) is a accessory hot. Wire your cig lighter to that and ground the other side. It will work when the key is on only that way. Thats how I have all my fogs wired so I don't kill the battery if I accidentally leave one on.

Cig lighters, when actually used as cig lighters, draw a lot of current. If you aren't 100% sure of where you are connecting it, don't. Just because you can measure 12v there, does not mean it's safe to connect. The wiring has to be of adequate size to carry the current without melting. If you find a wire that goes to an unused fuse position, and just plug in a 20A fuse, you might be running that current on a while that is only adequate for 5 amps.
Fire & vehicles is a bad mix.
