You can use a pump if you don't want to remove the cover. Use gear oil 75w90. Will be difficult to see signs of wear and tear if you don't open the cover (metal shavings, etc).

if i do it this do i just take the rubber plug out? how hard and what is involved in removing the cover? i would assume that removing the bolts taking the cover off, inspecting, replacing gasket, apply the cover and bolts back into place is all that is involved. is there more to it than this or things i need to pay extra attention to? thanks alot for the input.

If you dont know how to take off your dif cover, i suggest making a trip to jiffy lube.

Not real sure where in any of post it mentions not being able to take a cover off. Do you know if you use a ratchet or screw driver for that?

So did jeep change the size of front axles from 98 to 01 I saw a build sheet on a 01 with a d30/ 181mm axle. My 98 build sheet states 230mm front axle but doesn't states what diff it is.
