That is 100% an 8.25. And as long as the housing is okay. Grab a new diff cover and new gears and rebuilt it. Or grab the 8.8 if you can.

it was just an option from the factory. What you showed was an open carrier if it only had spider gears (the 4 little gears inside the carrier) and nothing else
