choking out when accelerating

choking out when accelerating
I have a 98 cherokee classic w/ a straight 6 and when you hit on the gas it seems to choke out/loss of power and pops a few times before it takes off...I do need to replace my catalytic converter but have no check engine lights on...yet....is this the problem or could it be worse?

it could be the tps or mabe bad injectors or cracked manifold, all of those could lead up to that..but if its not givin codes then i would say the tps is good
