Choice for New Cylinder Head

Fact is, it appears you'll find many horror stories about any all suppliers of engine components. I think some are installer error. Some are misunderstandings. And, of course, some are genuine problems.

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered from Clearwater. It was $455 delivered to my door. They use a new, imroved casting, new valves and used springs. I'm OK with that.

Wow. Yeah, that's a lot more than I wanted to spend. I don't really need a performance cylinder head. Since it's all new, I was thinking if the price wasn't far from the an iron head, I'd go for it. Guess not!

It is pretty cool that if I really wanted an aluminum performance head for a Jeep 4.0, Edelbrock makes one.

Well none of those referenced a "new" 4.0 head, and leastwise the linc had a handfull of complaints over seven years, hmmm, and yet you bought from them. So what does that say?

My only dealings with them was a few yrs ago. New heads for 4.0 V6 Ferd, suffers same design flaw as 0331, not enough meat.

It says I checked multiple vendors and I found horror stories about all of them. Since Clearwater was recommended here and elsewhere, I went with Clearwater.

Yes. I've been running that cylinder head for almost a year now. It's on my daily driver and it has given me no problems.

Good deal, it looks like i got away with a pinhole in the radiator this time, but i will be keeping a close eye on it from now on.

Is the Clearwater head still going strong? I Looked today and saw the dreaded coolant drops thru the oil cap. Thinking im going to order a clearwater head and swap it in.

I have had no issues. Not my DD, so only have put 12,000 miles on it. 5,000 of that was on a trip to Black Hills, SD pulling a small M416 like trailer.

Yep. My XJ is my daily driver and it's been fine since I installed the Clearwater cylinder head.

Make sure you have the correct tools. Bolting on the intake manifold can be a bear.

Klutch, what tools did you use to get that intake back on? I have watched a few videos of people doing it and they did mention that it could be tricky.

I used extensions and a universal adapter, but that really didn't work very well. I think swivel sockets are what's really called for. Something like this:

Try Harbor Freight if you want a less expensive verison.
