Default Cherry Bomb Extreme

Looking to replace my muffler with a cherry bomb extreme (part number 7426). It has 2.5in inlet and outlet and it is a center/center layout. The stock muffler has the same outlet sizes I believe but the layout is center/offset. Has anyone used this muffler before with the stock piping? I want to know if it would fit in fine if I use an extension to compensate for the shortness of the new muffler. I would also have to move the tailpipe in slightly to fit the layout and I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this and had problems. Thanks for any info.

I believe the stock muff is 2.25" center in/offset out. An a-dap-ter nipple from a auto parts store should make it work, along with a clamp or 2. Gotta get creative.

If its the 89 its 2.25"

Later models had the 2.5 in and 2.25 out.

If I get an adapter I'll be fine. I'm just worried about the tailpipe hitting the axle or any lines back there. I guess I'll just have to try it and see how it goes. I wish I could just run a turndown out of the muffler but that's slightly illegal. I wanna tie it into the stock piping so it can stay legal until I can get someone to bend me a new tailpipe on a mandrel bender. Eventually I'll do a whole system. For now I just want a nice tone and a little loudness. Enough to turn heads but hopefully not grab attention of cops.

If u r going to stay with the stock tailpipe, the install will be much easier if u stick with a muff that is center in/offset out. A shorter muff is easy to adapt to the stock tailpipe....the wrong in/out offset can make things complicated. FWIW, our '98 also had a 2.25" stock inlet muff.......but no more, all 2.5" now.

Sorry for the slight threadjack, but what is illegal about that, anyway? Is it noise related, or because of heat or fumes or what?

I put a straight through glasspack on in place of my muffler and it never sealed properly. it also BROKE ALL OF THE TAILPIPE HANGERS and MELTED MY GAS TANK SHIELD because the pipe was too close to it. I wouldn't recommend it. $100 later for new hangers, pipe, and a proper muffler and my issue is fixed. I also didn't like the sound of the glasspack, too much like a ricer.

Go with a Thrush turbo, they have a much deeper, nice tone, and they're about 29 bucks at your FLAPS. I highly recommend it.

Looks like the Cherry Bomb Vortex 88101 or the Pro 7409 or the Turbo 16804 would be a better choice.....they're 2.25" center in/offset out.

Turndowns are illegal because of the fumes - they get into the cab.
CO not only can give you heart and lung disease, but cause you to become drowsy. It's not only you that dies when you fall asleep at the wheel, but your family and anyone you crash into.

It has to exit out the sides or back.

Thanks - much obliged. I take it that straight trucks get away with turndowns since its usually under the box or bed, away from the cab?

You did something REALLY wrong, then. I have had my glasspack for quite awhile now.

The problem was that since it wasn't offset it turned my whole tailpipe sideways and put it under tension. It took about a week for hangers to start breaking. I did nothing wrong, trust me

The way I look at it, I have enough room to play with so I can add a bend in the pipe to straighten the tailpipe out again. There's room to move around under there, I'll figure somethin out. If it doesn't work, I'll sell it on either here or ebay as slightly used and get some money back.
