Hello All, I am new to the forum and I am in some need of help. I have a 1996 Cherokee with a recent high idle problem. When I start it it is runs fine, once it gets warmed up it the idle jumps up to about 3000 RPM. I can't figure it out for the life of me. Any ideas would be welcome.

The inlet air control sensor(iac)

 

There is a valve that controls the amount of air entering your intake manifold. The more air the higher idle. It is controled by the amound of electric current through the valve. They could become clogged up from carbon deposit and not function properly, but that usually causes eratic idel. Since you are having a high idle it could be that the coil inside the valve is worn out and it is not opening or closing per specification. I would start by removing it and cleaning it to see if it helps, if not, replace it.
