Default cherokee idle at 3 grand with throttle closed

Hello all!

I have an issue with my xj cherokee its a 4 litre 6 cyl petrol. I blew a head gasket in it last week and over the weekend I have replaced it. now im having an issue as soon as i start it (starts first go) the revs go straight up to 3 grand and stay there. I have pulled the air cleaner back off and the throttle body is fully closed and I have plugged up the vacuum lines to eliminate the problem there but no luck still :S I am out of ideas! if anyone could help me I will be eternily grateful!

Intake gasket leak, vacuum line disconnected, or IAC valve being out of whack are a few things that come to mind.

blocked off all vacuum lines (charcoal canister, brake booster etc) made very little difference when i block off the throttle body with my hand it doesnt die tho... so i think yes it is intake manifold gasket. but I thought if it were that wouldnt the motor just die under revs?

Unplug the Throttle Position sensor and start it to see if that's it.

More than likely, given the work just done, the intake manifold is hung up on one of the locating dowels. Although the bolts feel tight, the intake manifold is not fully seated on the head.
