Left (driver side) mount is the one that usually goes it can transfer all the way through the exhaust system. But you would have other problems as well if it were the motor mount I would think.

bad motor mount usually equals broken fanshroud and cracked exhaust manifold don't think it could cause a sluggish tranny issue, when the wife's 01 does it the condition occurs when applying the gas from a brief or rolling stop it's like the tranny tries to start in 2nd then drops to first giving the thud feeling not really an audible thud noise
I'm at a loss for the cause but if it ever starts happening regularly I'll probably throw a shift solenoid in it and see what happens

Has anyone considered a broken or failing Tranny mount? That would give a clunk upon taking off and not be heard while driving down the road. Mine was nothing but two pieces of steel and had a bad vibration at a stop but never a clunk. But yours may not be as deteriorated as mine was.

I haven't. Right now my garage is full and I have to park the Cherokee outside in the grass. There are a lot of ticks and bugs where I am, plus we've had rain on and off for a while now so I haven't been wanting to get under the Jeep, but I may just spread an old blanket or something and do it.

I keep forgetting that everyons Jeep isn't lifted. I use a slab I had poured to work on my projects. and a creeper but forget that many ppl don't have that option. Sorry. I have crawled under it at the back of the car wash too to check for a noise after a stone got slammed under it on a trail ride.
