Default Cherokee dashboard issue

Hello to everyone, this is my first posting on this forum so here it goes. I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport with 129,000 miles on it, and everything is working well now except for an issue I am having with the dash instruments. They stop working all at once and I also have trouble with one or both of the front speakers not working at the same time. I will be going down the road and all of a sudden you might hear a pop or a click and then everything starts working again. The only thing showing on the dash will be the ABS and the Airbag light illuminated during the time the dash doesn't work. It doesn't happen every time I drive it, so it's hard to know when it's going to happen, but it can cause some real issues if my daughter or wife are driving. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marc

Next time it happen slap the top of the dash above the instrument cluster. If they come back on you either have a loose connection or dirty connections on the back of the cluster. It is a very common problem with our XJ's.

99s had a recall for the airbag control module. Might wanna check if that was ever done. It can be one cause of the instrument panel going out.

I will try that for sure, I was worried that maybe it might be a ground issue too. One thing in addition I did replace was the AM/FM cassette factory radio with an AM/FM CD factory radio. Wasn't sure if this would have had anything to do with the gauges and speaker issues at all. Thanks, Marc
