Default Cherokee cooling

I have 2000 Cherokee that has a temp gauge that seems to be acting up from time to time. It drops down to about reading 110 and sometimes will go back up to normal. I'm thinking it is the sensor or the thermostate. There are no signs of it over heating. It doesn't run any different just has a temp sensing issue. Anyone have any ideas?

Try taking the temp sensor out and cleaning it. Mine does the same thing
