Cherokee was broken into....
As you might imagine.....I am a little bit pissed. They tried to take the car obviously because nothing inside was missing.
Anyway, she is getting patched up as we speak...however I do have a few questions. They scratched up my a/c faceplate controls apparently and I am having a hard time finding a replacement part for that. I am sure it's on ebay but I don't know what to search for.
I opted to take an allowance off of my deductible for the faceplate so I am hoping i can find it for less than 100 dollars.
It sucks that this happened, but at least they weren't able to take it. They ripped out my ignition and smashed my front window and destroyed a bit of my interior, but....all of that is getting replaced by the insurance.
So yeah, if anyone can help me find that piece, it'd be greatly appreciated.
It's for a 96' cherokee.

If I was in this situation, I would take as little as possible of the insurance money to repair it with junkyard parts, and drop the rest on a security/alarm system.

Most people ignore car alarms.
Post some pictures of the A/C plate, I got an 88 parts XJ, and I will never use that plate, my XJ does not have factory A/C. So I can compare yours to mine and we'll talk about it.

in regards to ppl not listening to car alarms...you need to be creative...
saw a video of a car alarm, instead of the annoying stupid stock alarm it was the sounds of a couple "doing it". I am sure it would start some kind of curiosity.
Another idea (which is far fetched) when it goes off have an extremely loud train horn, some kind of sound that isnt normal to the streets, thats superloud...just a thought. Not exactly sure how that could work. But an idea...

People Might ignore them, but thieves still dont wanna sit in a car while its making a bunch of noise.
Not to mention kill switches, so they actually cant get it.

But to everyone else who has the face plate...as soon as I get the car back I'll post pictures up and we can go from there.
I would have replaced most of the parts myself...but they ripped apart my steering column and destroyed my ignition so essentially I had no way of starting my car up the day it happened.

there used to be an alarm speaker called a pain inducer, something like 135 decibles, high pitched and was the typical up down sound. Meant to be mounted under the dash somewhere, that's the idea I liked.
I always figure if someone sees the flashing light and they still break in then they were probably good enough to bypass an alarm anyway. The ones that aren't good enough keep looking elsewhere, so I run a fake DEI hyperbright flashing LED alarm light. Hook up a ground, switched power and constant power, then when you turn your ignition off it starts flashing.

that sucks, i didnt know jeeps got broken into
i used to be into honda's and they were notorious for getting jacked so i used to have a 2 way paging alarm that i self installed, and i never had a blinking light, that just lets the thieves know to pop the hood and unhook the battery...
and i had my siren on a switch, my keychain pager worked up to a mile away so anytime i was close to my car, i had the siren disabled, so if someone was breaking into my car they wouldnt know i had an alarm, but my keychain would be beeping letting me know someone is tampering with it which was good when im at hoom in my bedroom and my shotgun is handy
but when i would go to the mall i would flip the switch to turn the siren on so if it went off some one would know...
those types of alarms are kind of pricy, they range from 150 for cheap up to 500 for the best if not more, i spent 380 for my viper but i got a discount because my friend works for toyota

Hey guys, I do have one quick question.
I just got the car back from the shop today and I noticed a few things.
First thing I noticed was that my a/c control panel does not light up, but then I cannot remember if it ever did light up. I believe it did, but today it just felt unusually dark around that area. Everything else lights up just fine except for the a/c control panel.
The second thing I noticed was that the steering wheel makes a clicking noise when you turn it to the left. This is something I'll have the guy look into since he replaced the entire steering column. In either case, is this something I should be concerned about?
Other than that...I sure did miss it.

The H/V/AC control panel does not light up.
